Pinterest Challenge

The time, I first joined Pinterest, might be in undergraduate school in 2012? in 2013? I remember that I used this site to prepare one of my lessons in a practicum period. Those days, I did not consider the foundational natures, but I just thought this simply as a site for sharing useful images. After six or seven years, I earned some additional insights by doing this Pinterest Challenge.

First, I like the intuitiveness of this site. Once you search keywords, you can see visualized materials shared by users, including photos, infographics, templates, etc., which are related to the keywords. Because photos are spread out on screen, you can find proper information intuitively. At the same time, you should be careful to be distracted from exploring other attractive photos! It looks similar to Instagram in that they both share images they experience or information, but I felt Pinterest is more focused on information sharing not for record of daily life or entertainment.

Second, boards could become archives for professional and personal purposes by using pin function (bookmarking). The picture below is my boards. I deleted teaching materials and left eme6414, research, office design, and interests. I can save figures and images related to my research and personal interests. I am going to create new boards related to cooking - my cooking chronicle and recipes of my favorite! Unless Pinterest does fail their business, I can save and share my cooking history and recipes. Oh, now I can confidently say that I am doing a produsage or a prosumer work in the Web 2.0 world!!!:)

However, when you share or search for information, you should consider whether resources are accurate or up-to-date. When I was looking for images on social media, there were images created in 2012 or more outdated. Moreover, it might take time to evaluate the correctness of the information and to decide to save after checking the original sources for meaningful usage.

If there has been no chance to revisit Pinterest, I would have been a pure consumer, but through this Pinterest challenge experience and articles about bookmarking (tagging), I learned the unique features of this platform again and found the worth to use.
