Working as a 'produser' and using social media in instructional design
I designed and developed a lesson this week for the produsage assignment. The topic was teacher burnout and organized in an online learning platform, Sutori. Looking back at the process, there were several points to consider as an instructional designer.
Firstly, alignment with learning objectives is important regardless of learning environments. Sutori provides a feature to connect various formats on the same page so that you can use almost every format related to the learning contents. If I did not focus on the learning objectives, the instruction could have been overloaded occurring learners' extraneous cognitive load.
Second, social media usage considering characteristics of Web 2.0 is an opportunity to make the instruction more vibrant. One of the main characteristics of Web 2.0 is interconnectivity with users in the online environment. Depending on the learning objectives, instructional designers create active activities using social media. However, I learned that instructional designers should have knowledge on Having knowledge of purpose-appropriate social media usage and features could be one of the competencies of instructional designers to implement or apply social media in education in effective ways.
Lastly, I learned the reason that we need experts in instructional design for online learning. Even though I have experienced to develop online programs for teacher training in Korea, it was the first time for me to design and develop an interactive and effective module using social media. So sometimes I wondered if the class I've developed will actually work or not. At that time, I thought I could have developed better classes if I work with an expert in online learning.
To sum up, while I was conducting this assignment, I thought that this assignment was designed to make students utilize their instructional design skills and knowledge of educational usage of social media, which they acquired from this course. As expected, it was a great time to remind what I learned and consider what I learned!:)

Thanks for sharing your example / experience with Sutori, Yujin! I am not all too familiar with the source, but did some googling / purusing of it per your recommendation and it seems like it has a lot of great collaborative opportunity.
